About Us

Here at F.W. Graunke we are very proud of the fact that we have been an Authorised Mercedes Benz dealer for service and spare parts for OVER 35 YEARS!! We have also managed to do this as a family, which we think is a very special achievement. We thought you might like to know about our history as well …..

Fritz Graunke and his wife Susi commenced business at these premises in February 1974. Fritz had previously been employed as a workshop foreman at Lanes Motors in South Melbourne - you may know them today as Mercedes Benz of Melbourne.

The workshop at F.W. Graunke was very small to begin with, just Fritz, Ralph Wolff as mechanic and foreman. With Susi, doing spare parts and reception. The business grew over the ensuing years to employ several more mechanics and apprentices, and was joined in 1984 By Penny Madden as Spare Parts Manager - Penny is still with us today.

Fritzs' son Rolf Graunke joined the team in 1986 to commence his apprenticeship training, during which time he received the Mercedes-Benz award for Apprentice of the Year for 3 consecutive years, plus Apprentice of the Year for 3 consecutive years at Swinburn TAFE in Wantirna. Rolf also studied at night school for several years to receive the BEC (Basic Electronics Certificate), and then The Advanced Certificate in Business Management. Rolf continued working as an automotive technician in the workshop until he eventually became Manager in the early 1990's. Rolf's wife Sam has also worked part time at F.W. Graunke for over 10 years and from time to time you can see the next generation appear as their three children visit "Dad" occasionally at work.
